Us Too Brampton - June 2010 - General Meeting Announcement 

PCC & PCCN representatives Helene Vassos and Derek Lawrence attended our June 2010 General Meeting at the request of the Steering Committee. 

After a very brief introduction to Prostate Cancer Canada (PCC) and the Prostate Cancer Canada Network (PCCN) they were actively engaged answering questions about the goals of Prostate Cancer Canada. They also addressed the concerns of a few of our members with respect to the effects that it would have on our local support group. Once those concerns were put to rest and all of the questions were answered, it was put to a vote and the attending 50+ members voted unanimously to proceed with Affiliation with Prostate Cancer Canada.  There were 4 NO votes submitted by members who were unable to attend. 

All that this means for the group is that our name will change to: 
Prostate Cancer Canada Network - Brampton 

We will retain our affiliation with Us Too International, and we will continue to honour the contributions of our founders and long time members.  The small number of our members who were opposed to the affiliation fear that it will somehow lead the group away from our goals of PC Awareness and Support for the newly diagnosed and their families.  On the contrary, we could sense during the meeting both a renewed commitment to the cause and a brand new sense of optimism that our voices would finally be heard on the provincial and national stages. 

Our hope is that even those who are skeptical will come to see the wisdom of this decision and will ultimately support it.
